BATTERY CHARGER

 

Battery charger is an electronic device that supplies a controlled voltage and current to a battery or a secondary cell once got exhausted by constant use. It needs to be charged by DC source having voltage current characteristics to match the one specified by the battery manufactures. The mains supply power is broken down and rectified by using a conduit connected rectifier to generate the preferred output to charge the batteries.

The battery which is being charged requires the charge current depending upon its technology and capacity. Industrial battery chargers are devised and manufactured to customer's distinctive requirements with variance. General stipulations which include most of the application are with Input: 240 V, 1 phase or 415 V, 3 phase, 50 Hz AC, Output: Up to 300 V DC and Capacity: Up to 400 Amps.

There are certain types of battery chargers that have an auto-shut off system to prevent overcharging that is being forced into the battery when it is full. This prevents the battery from damage but it is not safe to leave a charger "on" after the battery charging has finished.
Simple charger works on a principle of supplying a constant DC power source to a battery which is to be charged. Fast charger utilizes control circuitry to charge the batteries speedily without damaging its components. A battery trickle charger is usually a low-current (500–1,500 MA) charger generally preferred to charge small capacity batteries (2–30 Ah).
Certain batteries are charged by inductive charger which uses electromagnetic induction. In a timer based charger, the output is terminated after a specific period of programmed time. The intelligent charger checks the battery's temperature, voltage, and the time schedule to decide the select charge current at that moment. The Solar charger transforms the solar energy into DC current.
