ISOLATION TRANSFORMER
The isolation transformer has a physically separated primary
and secondary winding generally with a symmetrical winding of
1:1 ratio. The intention is not to modify the voltage but to guard
the equipment from reverberation on the power line. The isolation
transformer usually is equipped with grounded shield between the
windings which facilitate to decrease the capacitive coupling
between the coils to block high-frequency sound.
A general advantage of isolation transformer is that it protects
the electronic equipments with high standard of safety for computers,
communication equipments, VCRs, TVs, expensive gadgets used in
hospital such as CNC machines medical instruments and analytical
instruments.
Heavy industrial machineries command higher voltage and large
current since they are generally larger and more robust. The isolation
transformer blocks the piercing noise emanating from these machineries
to considerable level.
The salient features of isolation transformer is that it isolates
the equipment from noisy power line, reduces power line clamor,
surges, spikes and transients, high insulation resistance, provides
the complete electromagnetic and electro static shielding etc.
Isolation transformer helps in radio frequency isolation. It assists
the DC power isolation by division of the DC parts from the meter
to control all speakers in the row. Isolation transformer is useful
as a security measure in electrical testing and servicing. It
provides better analogous of critical load to electrical circuits
as also reduces the cumulative leakage current to levels below
300 micro amps with Faraday Shields.
There are three phase isolation transformers that have isolated
primary and secondary windings to allow the power input to be
isolated from the power output. They are extensively used for
saw mills, solar grain dryer, refrigeration, ovens, lighting,
lasers, battery chargers, conveyer belt systems and air conditioning.
